Spoke with NEC- they do not support the ND3530A as its specifically made for Dell who wrote the firmware to fit with their system BIOS. Like others I want to burn in DVD - R Dual layer, which Dell do not support through a firmware upgrade ( Come on DELL wake up and write one ).
Has anyone out there updated a third party firmware that supports DVD-R Dual Layer and if so does it work and where can I find it???

A couple questions. How big is the file? Does it require a DL disc?
My suggestion? Don't use DLA.

Dell's firmware for the NEC 3530A won't burn DVD-R DL media. It will burn -R SL media.

To burn -R DL media you'll have to update to a NEC firmware, or one of several modified firmwares. A good source for NEC firmwares is http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/index.html.
Note that using a modified firmware may void your warranty, if it still has one.
