I'd describe this as more than a nuisance. Could be a physical malfunction. The next time this happens, use the eject command from within My Computer to eject the disc. If that works, then it's more than likely a button issue. If that does not work, it's possible this is a DLA problem. Check if DLA is running on that drive and if it is, disable it.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

I neglected to mention in the original summary that I seemed to be unable to open the drive bay even through an application (i.e., I tried once to "eject" from "Windows Media Player" - with no luck - it remained closed.  I just tried it now, again from "Windows Media Player", and the drive bay opened).

Forgive my ignorance, but you made a reference to DLA in your reply.  I am unsure as to what this is.  I just did a search on the net, but there are far too many acronyms (Disability Living Allowance, Defense Logistics Agency, etc...).  Could you possibly shed some light?  Wild guess: could it be "drive letter assignment"?  Once again, thanks for any help.  Take care.

Sorry. Check your drive properties in My Computer. If DLA is running, there will be a DLA tab with that checked. If you do not have DLA running, post back and let me know.
