Optiplex GX260 hard drive size problem

Question

Hello! I've just purchased a used GX620 with XP and service pack 2.  It has a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB installed. The previous owner said he was never able to get the system to recognise more then 127GB even after downlading the Big Drive Enabler from maxtor. On closer inspection, I find that the drive is in fact PATA. Can it be confirmed that this is the problem and only SATA drives will work? If the problem is not the PATA drive, what else can I do to get it to recognise the 300GB? Thanks guys! Hi again, i've just read similar threads to my problem. jeez louise it seems lke a nightmare to sort out!! but is the PATA drive still gonna cause a problem? should i get a SATA drive? Go To Control Panel, Admin tools, Next Go to Computer Management. ( You Need Admin Rights On Your Account) On The Left You should see a couple on Icons go t o Disk Management.

Okay Next you Should see Disk 0 and there should be a Disk 1. (Thats the partition Youre looking for) Look for a way to make it online.

Don't take this to close to heart because ive only used disk management once when I added a 80Gb drive I had to use Disk Management to use it.
