touchpad scroll problem

The scroll area on my touchpad isn't working? Every time I touch the side to scroll it just moves the pointer instead of scrolling. What can I do?

I found a Dell Vista Driver for the touchpad and installed it getting this new properties box:

Synaptics only has generic drivers, and it clearly specifies there may be a loss of advanced features.  Still no scrolling, and yet the Synaptics advancd features appear in the computer processes.

Hi,
I've had the Inspiron 6000 before, and boy, did it have so many touch pad problems from the moment I got it. It was brand new, but within just a day or so, the scroll feature just began to chug along, as opposed to scroll smoothly and quickly. A friend of mine got a different model laptop from Dell at the same time that I got the 6000. his touch pad was of a different brand, and did not change in its behavior at all, and to this day, it's still working just like it did when he first got it.

What I later discovered was that the particular brand being used for this model was not good to begin with, and easily damaged, even under normal use. Even with subsequent replacements, the same thing happened, and so in the end, I just had to part ways with the system all together.

Hi I reinstalled XP Home Edition, the one that came originally, reinstalled the driver from the resource CD and still no scroll.  I have searched the entire dell website searching for other drivers and then installed them having the same results.  You told me only XP drivers were available and I thought this would solve the problem but it did not,  Can you help me?

PS I have searched also for the Dell Media Experience which my laptop originally had, and read it was supposed to be on the Dell Resource CD, and it is not.  Is it because of a mistake or because I can go somewhere and download it.
