Thank you Predator...I looked at your site and Roxio's and downloaded some updates. I will try tonight and post back tomorrow.

But what would suggest keeping ? Roxio or Easy CD ?

Hi Debra,

Go to Section 47 & 45 of the CD/RW site, remove all of the burning software. I am guessing here but your post gives me the impression you may have both version 4 & version 5 of Roxio`s software installed. You need to get all of this completely removed, then install only the latest version of the two. Next jump over to Roxio`s site and apply the update for that version.
Check the jumper setting on the new drive, Dell ships their systems using the Cable Select Feature, jumper set on CS or CSEL, set the CD/RW accordlingly.
Double check that the IDE cable is seated firmly on both drives.
You may have to uninstall and reinstall your DVD player software, all the previous uninstalls / reinstalls may have corruptted a file the DVD player needs.

Happy Holidays!

Hi Deb,

Actually Roxio is the brand name of the software, Easy CD Creator, one `n the same. I was simply assuming it was possible you were referring to version 4 as Easy CD and version 5 as Roxio but we all know what assumations may lead too...lol
I would keep version 5 over version 4 if this is the case.

Morning Predator,

I see what you mean. You were right about the different versions.

Last night I made sure that both Easy and Roxio were cleanly removed. And installed Roxio. Burner worked fine but still no luck playing music CD or a game CD in DVD drive. But I could watch a DVD in that drive. So at least the DVD drive was functioning somewhat. I had gotten a TID off of Microsoft's knowledge base pertaining to CD errors with Windows ME or Windows 98. I will attach link to the bottom of my post because that is what cleared my problem up. I followed the instructions in the TID and now both my drives are working like a charm.

You have a lot of valuable information on your site. I will bookmark you site for further reference. Thanks for your help. Maybe you can add the knowledgebase info I used to your site.
