I am having the same problem with a new DVD (bought in Sept last year, but it was made in July 2004!) I have tried several different brands after I discovered that I had bought -DVDs instead of +. Some give error message, but there are pictures on the DVDs! The last ones I did were OK with NERO. I am going to try some more since I have  new pictures; I wasted a bunch with all the tests Dell had me run. They won't take a phone call since the computer is out of warranty, but the DVD isn't.

Frim what I have read, gold CDs are more archival than any DVDs so maybe it is not worth the risk to hold more data.

Good luck.

I am experiencing the same problem with my DVD burner.... Burning a CD works but not DVD tried with Sonic used Nero, too. I bought a Dell Inspirion 6000 Laptop - pls let me know of any solution you hear of.

When I posted questions about this issue before, some suggested using an update, but NEC doesn't support it since I bought it from Dell and Dell says no update is available! The Dell tech told me to try something that was 16X. I don't understand all the technology stuff, but they seemed to work better than the 8x DVDs. Unfortunately, I bought 100 of the latter (Imation), but they do work on my laptop at least. The 16x I tried are Memorex. There are links for my model that suggest brands of DVDs to try. Perhaps if you search the forum by the model of DVD you will find additional information. Good luck.

I like being able to order what I want on a computer, but am not please with the service from Dell. I doubt anyone else is much better.
