If this does not help, I strongly suggest you contact Dell and request help. Dell has had a few problems with the drive, so dealing with it on a case bye case issue.
Best Regards!

Sorry to hear about the lack of support GreekGeek. Dell has been sliding in that area of late. For what it is worth, I hope the replacement resolves your issue.
Good luck..

I fixed my problem.I contacted Dell and it seems there was a file in the registry the that was conflicting with other files. I upgraded my firmware just after I got it to work.Thank you so much.(Sorry I didn't reply, I forgot all about my post after I got my CD drive working)
My HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B does fine recording DVDs, but won't recognize any of the three brands of CDs I've bought to make a recording. I updated the firmware, to no effect. My tech help was worthless. The guy suggested rolling back my PC as much as three months. I tried to get Dell customer service to replace this drive. They sent me back to tech help. I am one unhappy customer.
Hi! i have a problem with my driver... i can burn dvd and my drive can read dvds but i cant burn to cd.. the drive can read from cd but it does not read/write blank cds. what should i do? tnx!:D
Did it used to write CD/DVD's before? If not your drive may not have that option. I would wait for a admin/mod to reply to your question. Hope this helps.
"it seems there was a file in the registry the that was conflicting with other files." Mr.D3llyman, What is the file name to which you are referring? I think I have the same problem, but my warranty is up (1 month ago) and support won't help w/o me dolling out some more cash... PLEASE Help! Thx - efraw

I am the unhappy owner of a new XPS 400 with the same problem! I should receive my new drive Wednesday of this week.
Support has been awful. I regret buying this machine.

What were the results of loading the A03 firmware? Did it fix your issues?
