the 160Gb pata hard drive will work.

suggest you have the latest A09 bios installed before you fit the new hdd.

btw remember to transfer the adapter on the "old" hdd ide pins over to the new drive before installation.

how do i get the A09Bios installed before i install the 160GB HDD into my notebook?

you can update the bios in pure dos using either an external usb floppy drive or a bootable cdr.

the hdd doesn't have to be in the laptop when you update.

thanks for the help with my questions. Today I checked my Bios Version on Setup and it says that i already have Bios version A09. That makes me think that all i have to do now is buy the 160GB HDD from dell,switch the adapter and install it in my laptop.I'm i correct on that is is there anymore info i should have.
