Lets try a couple of standard steps, try one, if it does not help, move to the next. Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; section 20, article 3; Section 12, article 10 (Ignore the reference to Roxio).
Best Regards

Hi Predator,
I have noticed that deleting the filters and then redetecting the drive works brilliantly. Ever had any no go's in the way you do?
Also I have seen that deleting the filters disassociates the drive with the software and a software reinstallation is required. Any feedback on that?
As with anything in this wonderful PC world, nothing is 100%. Yes, the articles have not always helped with the filters according to a Member or two resulting in a reinstall of the software. Of course I am not sure if it was the article, operator error, or the software was corrupt in the first place and I always give the Member the benefit of the doubt when they say they followed the steps to the letter. The filters have become a standard step along with the drivers anymore in trouble shooting. It will interesting to see how the new systems with no IDE channels perform with SATA optical drives, I may get to retire!!
Best Regards

I realize the posts above are pretty old, but the thread subject is pretty close to my current problem. We have a Dell E1505, running vista. It's about a year old, never had any problems with the media players. Then I got an iPod. Immediately upon loading iTunes, synching and all that jazz, the CD/DVD drive stopped working. I have perused these forums, tried to do the device manager>uninstall driver>reboot suggestion and no go. When I do look at CD/DVD driver in device manager, the message is "This device cannot start. Code 10". I must admit that I am pretty computer illiterat, and have no idea what the Code 10 means.
I am sure hoping that somebody will have a simple fix for me. I am even willing to look like a complete idiot for the whole world to see. I have checked, however, and the computer is plugged in.

This is easily solved by following the solution for a "code 39 error" in the CD/DVD FAQ.
Unfortunately, iTunes seems to have a chronic problem with this issue, as you would see if you searched the iTunes forums.
Good luck!
