Hi Edhopper,

Dell has a firmware update for this drive, however the update addresses a Linux issue.
Let see if it might be a driver issue; Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3. Run these and see if they help.
Also verify that the drive is running in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Same CD/RW link, Section 15, articles 14 & 17.

Best Regards!

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.

Before I go through this, I want to repeat. My Drive works most of the time. Some data CDs I have burned are not recognized. My Computer says "no files found". My wife's laptop can read these discs, my Dimension can't.
Should i still go ahead with your suggestions?

Hi Ed,

These articles will force Windows to re-install the proper driver once more. Many times they can be over written by other programs.
It is a standard step, if this does not help, then we have to look elsewhere, media, software, the drive itself.

There is a non-Dell firmware for this drive that seems to work well, unfortunately the use it voids the warranty on the drive, catch 22...

Best Regards!

I followed your instructions. Drive still doesn't recognize the data CD.
What next?

Hi Ed,

Is the drive still under warranty, if so run the Dell test I have in Section 12, artile 3 / step #2, if it fails contact Dell for a replacement.
If it is out of warrnty, same CD/RW link, "consider" Section 5-1.

Best Regards
