CD drive not reading disk

Question

I'll make this as simple as I can.  So I have an E510.  I have a disk that I got from gettting pictures developed.  The computer will not read the disk for whatever reason.  It does one of the following.  It will start making a sound and then stop and when I go to my computer and to the d drive, there's nothing in there.  Or it will start spinning and then when I go to my computer and click on d drive, it'll just stay there and the 'Not responding' message will appear next to my computer and nothing will happen.   I take the same disk and try it in my roomate's E310 and within about 30 seconds you can access the pictures.  This is really disturbing, especially since I upgraded the cd/dvd drive when I ordered the computer.  I need some suggestions, please.

Hi Blindman,Dell makes it sort hard for us non Dell people to search these model numbers.Try going to Device Manager, click the '+' next to DVD\CD-ROM drives and list the name here, thanks...Best Regards! I'll try to find more when I can, but my invoice says that it's a 16X DVD+/-RW Drive.  Item number 313-4120, if that helps at all.

Under the device manager it reads.   HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164B

They have released two firmware updates:Here is the first one:Urgent: E112.zipHere is the second one:Optional: E113.zipIf they do not help, please contact Dell and inform the Tech you have tried Dell`s firmware without success, be firm but polite and request a replacement.Best Regards! Pls try this. I recently bougth an xps and my writers were failing. Dell sent a replacement, etc. I noticed they are installing all the cd/dvd drives on the ide as cable select. In the yrs of buildin my own I used master, with slave when sitting on one bus. I changed the jumpers to on MA, one SL, and the recorder works.
