I've experienced the same problem since installing Norton Antivirus 2007. Whenever I access the drive on my Sony Handycam using a DVD-R, I receive the blue screen with the bad Bad_pool_header message. Have you been able to resolve your problem?
It was me that it happened to.. I will never buy any Symantec product again.. The guy ( an ) I delt with walked me through this whole long process of testing the software only to say ," See it has nothing to do with the software, it is definitley a hardware issue and to contact Dell".
So I figured I'd see what happpen if I uninstalled Nortons and sure enough my cd/dvd drive was back to new. He basically lied to my ear.
Please help. I have just dowloaded and renewed my norton internet security software. i upgraded to the 2007 version. After doing this i placed a sony CD-R 700mb into my cd drive to load some pics to it. I have used at least 50 of these disks with no problem. After placing the disk in I heard the drive start to run and then all of a sudden the big blue screen appeared, stating a bad_header_tool????? Then after rebooting I get a screen that states the computer has recovered from a serious error. This continues to happen. I called symantec and they walked me through starting up laptop without Nortons running. Same problem occured. They stated it had something to do with hardware not with Nortons and to contact DELL. I can run a verbatim dvd+rw wiith no problems my pics and video all work.. Any suggestions?

I recently had the same blue screen shut down after I installed Norton 2007. Everytime I placed a CD-R in the drive the computer would go to blue screen. It took a friend several hours to locate and correct what turned out to be a very simple fix.
The problem turned out to be a conflict with the Sonic program, specifically the command in the Start Up Menu within Configuration. The command, tfswctrl, was the cause of the conflict with Norton 2007 and blue screen shut down. The command is used for pocket writing by HP and Sonic and I consider unnecessary for my work.
When the box is unchecked and the system restarted my problem was solved.
1. Press Start then Run
2. msconfig should appear in the box, if not type it in
3. click on the Start Up tap
3. Scroll down to tfswctrl
4. uncheck the box in front of tfswctrl
5. press OK
6. select restart
