Make sure you mounted the edge connector from the back of the old drive on the new one.

The new RAM sounds like it's high density, which the 5000e won't take.

You need 2 x256mb Low density 16 chip Modules. PC133 is a no-no. wjth this model.

I believe low density PC133 works fine.

Okay. When two knowledgable people tell you "you're dead!" it is time to lay down. Thanks for the correction. I would be the first one from to admit that what works is not always "on the page" from some of my experimentation.

Rick, Dell's specs for this model say PC66 or PC100. My experience with other models that were released during PC66 days is that they can use PC100 but not PC133. The lowest density Modules I have seen for PC133 had 8 chips and no 16 chips modules were seen. If I am wrong, mea culpa, but I stick to Dell specs unless I have personally tried a nonspecified RAM type and amount.

PC133 works fine as long as it's low density. I have a 6.5 year old 5000e running 512M of PC133 Crucial RAM.

The key is that the RAM MUST be low density - the 440BX chipset on the 5000/5000e won't take high density RAM.
