PC Restore on M1210 & screen issues

Question

My XPS came with the PC Restore, however I wasn't aware of this feature till the deed had been done. My XPS started acting up and was taking about 10 mins to startup and I tried to uncheck all startup items. Anyways, I went ahead and tried reinstalling the OS. I saw the different partitions but I made sure I didnt tamper with the other partitions except the C partition where I asked the OS to be reinstalled. After reinstalling windows MCE, I found out I could have just used PC restore. I tried to ue PC Restore but ctrl + f11 does not work and i don't see the blue bar either. I've read that if you didnt delete all the partitions, it might still be there. Can I reactivate the PC restore or is it just totally gone? I intend to try steps from the goodell wbsite.   Also, has anyone had an issue of the screen going off when you try to close it and it doesn't come back on and the system stops responding? It will only power off when upi remove the battery and power? I had this issue and dell replaced the laptop and the new one is doing it too. Message Edited by ajabay on 11-22-200612:05 PM

i'm not sure if the Gooddells site will correct this system since it may use a different MBR, if it cannot be repaired the DSRFIX will do nothing, but its worth a try.   if not you may be able to download a 90 free trial of Norton Ghost. i may be wrong about that.

My question about Norton Ghost is will it save the image of the current installation or will it dig up the original image somehow?

This may be of interest to you also.   The image in the hidden partion is a Ghost image of the original setup.

I hate Dell restore. of course its fast and easy, but then I'm spending hours afterward deleting all the bloatware. If you know how to reformat your hard drive, reinstall windows and to get your drivers back, I say you aren't missing much.
