cant get XP on newly installled hard drive to boot - GX240 tower

I recently bought a used GX240 with Win2000 on HD. I have tried to take my hard drive from my Dell Optiplex GX1 and replace the Win2000 OS with the older HD with XP. But the GX240 won't boot; keep getting message about 'sorry for inconvenience....hardware change...boot to safe mode' but I get a flash of a bluescreen message and whole bios reboots. Bios sees the old hard drive, but won't boot. Seems like it should work.  Any ideas much appreciated.

Windows XP. unlike earlier versions, can't be readily moved between non-identical hardware.  You could try and do a repair install if you have standard XP CDs; otherwise you will have to do a full install on the disk in the GX240; and then face the same porblem if you eant to switch it back to the GX1.

Hey thanks. I wish I'd known that before I started this project! But, all my imaging software just couldn't do it so I'm now working on a new install and moving all the stuff over. thanks again.
