Hi Phil,

What happens if you disconnect the DVD/RW and just leave the DVD-ROM on the IDE cable, still popping noise?
Have you moved the DVD/RW to the "End" connection of the IDE cable, leave the DVD-ROM off for now, popping noise with this drive?

Hi Philtazz,

I am assuming the DVD-ROM sets in the Top Bay and this is the one that is making the noise; your DVD/RW is in the second bay and it is fine, correct?

I would first verify that your drives are running in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to section 15, articles 14 & 17.
Did the Tech or you try a new IDE cable?

Yes the dvd-rom is in the top drive and a am running in dma mode and new cables were installed.
