Dimension 2310 dvd rom pops but dvd burner works great

Question

I have had this problem for several months i have contacted dell and have been sent 2 replacement dvd drives. One replaced by a tec. the other by me. The poping happens on any cd or dvd. the light in front of the drive flashes at the same rate as the poping noise.   Please help

Hi Phil,What happens if you disconnect the DVD/RW and just leave the DVD-ROM on the IDE cable, still popping noise?Have you moved the DVD/RW to the 'End' connection of the IDE cable, leave the DVD-ROM off for now, popping noise with this drive?Best Regards! Hi Philtazz,I am assuming the DVD-ROM sets in the Top Bay and this is the one that is making the noise; your DVD/RW is in the second bay and it is fine, correct?I would first verify that your drives are running in DMA mode and not PIO mode. Please click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to section 15, articles 14 & 17.Did the Tech or you try a new IDE cable?Best Regards! Yes the dvd-rom is in the top drive and a am running in dma mode and new cables were installed.   phil
