Sonic's packet writing software, DLA, wants to take over all writing that involves dragging and dropping.  You can uninstall it and just use Windows XP's CD writing capability.

Or better yet, use Sonic to make a data disk rather than dragging files to the drive.

I tried to build a data disk from an DVD ISO file and what I ended up with (what I silently was afraid to get) was a DVD with an ISO file on it rather than the ISO-Image dumped to the DVD.

Where do I have the option to build a disc from an ISO-Image (with Sonic)?

I strongly suggest the second option. CD/DVD Packet writing is generally regarded by many as one of the best ways to lose your data.
