No, 95/98 cannot read a disc formatted as NTFS. You'll need an XP machine to do the job properly.
There is a utility that will allow 95/98 to read NTFS (www.sysinternals.com, now Microsoft), but you're likely going to have to take ownership of the files and so will need write access to the drive - use an XP system or wait until you have rebuilt the existing system and then try the recovery.
