They said manufacturer did not recomment downgrading and they for some reason did not want to mess with Roxio either - and they insisted it was a software problem. I actually talked to two technician/manager teams - one of them either dropped the call or simply hung up on me - hard to tell. They tried to convince me that I could simply back up all files from "Program Files" folder and then put them back - and that would work in leu of reinstalling all the software I put into the system since day 1.
I believe DMA was enabled from the very beginning - will check if that's still true when I get home.
Did the Tech have you try flashing the drive back to E112 firmware? Do you have the latest available update for Roxio/Sonic software? Also double check that the drive is running in DMA mode (UDMA-2) and not PIO mode. Click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 15, articles 14 & 17.
Best Regards!

I have to bowl tonight so I will check back later. Roxio Version 9 and Nero both have trail versions, you could try either one of those to rule out a burning software issue. However you may have to uninstall your current version of Roxio before going to Roxio 9. I recall Jim H mentioning some thing about that.
Best Regards
