Most common cause: failed hard drive. Locate the blue and white Dell Drivers and Utilities CD that arrived with the system. Boot the system from it and do a diagnostic on the drive.
Not specifically, unless there's something else wrong. You can also download a test utility from the drive manufacturer - the BIOS screen will tell you which make/model of drive you have.
You can download the Diags from Dell for your model, it may have some drive tests built in. Not sure about your model, but hit Alt and " D " at the splash screen. This works on some others from what I remember.
