Replacing HD - 5200 RPM vs 7200 RPM

Question

I have an Inspiron 8600 and need to replace the HD.  What are the pros and cons with going with a 60 Gb HD that runs a 5200 RPM vs 7200 RPM?  I read that the faster the unit runs the more power it requires, increases heat in system, and decreases battery life.  Will I be able to notice any difference in time when booting up, running programs, etc.? Thanks!

I have tried both 54000rpm and 7200rpm drives in the same system and there is so little difference that it doesn't matter to me. The 7200rpm drive did run hotter and decrease the battery life so I pulled it out.

not true, the 7200 run faster, cooler and uses the same or less power as a 5400 does.

As a general rule: Most 7200 rpm drives will use more power, reduce battery life, and generate more heat than a 5200 rpm drive. The laws of physics dictates this regardless of how slight the differences.   pcgeek11
