changing hard drive letter designation

Question

I have a dimension e310 that I have just had to replace the hard drive on, now the hard drive shows up as the E: drive instead of the C: drive, how do I change it back and could this be causing my inability to read and write to my D: drive which is my DVD/CD-RW drive.  My operating system is XP.  Thanks for any help anyone can offer

If you installed the OS as E, then you cannot change it, unless you reinstall windows and be sure it installs as C.   'could this be causing my inability to read and write to my D: drive which is my DVD/CD-RW drive'   No.

The only way, to change the assigned letter of the primary boot volume, is to reinstall XP.

Thank you all, for the info, I think I will just live with my hard drive being E: rather than go through the hassle of reinstalling XP
