No, it's not that easy. There are two plugs, the IDE cable (flat and wide) and a power cable (four wires). Your manual has instructions.
 
So just to clarify, are you replacing your CD-ROM so you have two DVD burners? That's a fine idea, I just want to be clear what you're doing.

Yes thats what I am doing.
 
Now that I think about it more the tech must of had the screws on the new drive before he came and I just didn't notice.

It came today and I replaced my cdrom without problems.  Just a little trouble getting the case open.

Hello...I'm also planning to replace my cdrom and dvd burner in my dimension e310. Would you mind telling me what brand/model burner you replaced yours with and does it have LightScribe disc-labeling technology?  I see your post is three years old but I was hoping you still are still in this dell community. Thanks...Byron
