Replacing Dell Dimension E310's CDROM with a new DVD-RW with lightscribe

Question

Could some one please help. I am planning to replace my CDROM that orginally came with the E310 with the dvd burner, so I can backup dvdto dvd.  When Dell had to replace the dvd-rw that came with it orginally with the current one I don't remember the tech unpluging any cable he just slid the old drive out and replaced it.  Is it that easy or did I miss something?   ajwees41

No, it's not that easy. There are two plugs, the IDE cable (flat and wide) and a power cable (four wires). Your manual has instructions.   So just to clarify, are you replacing your CD-ROM so you have two DVD burners? That's a fine idea, I just want to be clear what you're doing.

Yes thats what I am doing.

Now that I think about it more the tech must of had the screws on the new drive before he came and I just didn't notice.

It came today and I replaced my cdrom without problems.  Just a little trouble getting the case open.   ajwees41

Hello...I'm also planning to replace my cdrom and dvd burner in my dimension e310. Would you mind telling me what brand/model burner you replaced yours with and does it have LightScribe disc-labeling technology?
