Resetting Bios (F2) does not work
So, my Inspiron 5100 is infested with Viruses.
I've obtained a copy of Windows Home and reinstalled using the full install method which formatted my hard drive. So far so good.
Now, I'm back and running... but the virus is still there. It was even somehow able to prevent the format from erasing the files. It's the strangest thing I've ever seen.
Anyway, I'm left with needing to reset the BIOS.
I've followed all directions - Press F2 ... press Cnt Enter ... all the possible key combinations and nothing will allow me into the bios setup.
It needs a reset.
Is there a jumper that I can set to reset my bios?
Thanks

After a format from a Windows disk I still have the virus and my file structure was not rewritten. I'm not certain, but I'm guessing that the virus is hiding in Bios somehow. At the very least the Bios is disrupted enough to not allow me to press F2 to enter it.
I suppose I could just do a BIOS flash, (though, I can't seem to find that file in the downloads section) but this probably wouldn't work, since the computer is infected with a virus. The flash would either just fail, brick my computer or simply reinstall itself. I need to reset the BIOS and boot to a clean disk and then format my HD in that order, otherwise I'm left with spending all of eternity trying to remove the virus.
I know I can open the case and remove the battery but I'd much rather use a resetting tool that is hopefully available.

You still haven't mentioned what virus it was, nor what symptom you still have.
