Cache Tech Questions (Inspiron 6000) Anyone?

Inspiron 6000 Laptop   I'm not a computer geek, but I am a grad student with an undergrad degree in technical management so I can follow directions!  So please, is there anyone out there who can help me with the following?   I have not had to do any of these before and my 'help' screens are not helpful.  My computer is out of warranty.   Question 1: What do I need to do about the failed cache test above?   Question 2: How do I 'clear the DNS cache'.  I am getting errors (and experiencing extremely poor performance on a laptop with 74% of its capacity available!   Question 3:  My computer failed the 2D/3D Primary Surface Test.  What do I do with that?   Question 4:  How do I turn off programs that start up when you boot up the computer?  (this is so basic I can't believe I have to ask!)  I have looked through the control panel, task manager, etc and can find the option to customize the 'menu list' but that only maintenances what displays in the toolbar.  I want to manage what is actually booting (WAY TOO MUCH stuff is booting up in my system, please help)   Thanks guys.

1. What test showed the cache failure? The RAM? Video card? Hard drive? Processor?

2. The command, at a command prompt is ipconfig /flushdns

3. Most likely, it is a video chip/card failure. If you have a card, replace it with a new one. If you have Intel integrated video, it means a new mainboard.

4. Run msconfig from start-run.

Diamond, tx,..alot.  The tests faile were the Dell PC Basic PC Checkup (believe it or not, geez) re: ur note below sorry if I'm in the wrong 'area', new user, I'll try to be a better 'user', please coach.  I'll follow directions given.  Merry Christmas .  ur an angel!  'queen girl'
