Hi Jeff,

Same CD/RW link, Section 12, article 3. Run the Dell Diagnostic Dell-ChrisM has listed in this article, post any error codes you receive.

Best Regards

Edit: as for the floppy, enter the BIOS/System Setup and turn it off.

Hi Jeff,

Normally we see this if a Member did not have a data CD in the drive for the test; however since you ran the test from the Resource CD itself, I dare say the drive needs replacing.
Please contact Dell and give this error code, some Members like the phone, other prefer the "Chat with Tech Support" link on the lower left of this page.

Best Regards

Jeff,
Thanks for your help.  I used a CD that had pictures on it following the second set on instructions, if that makes any difference.

Guess I am back to my original plan where I fix it using the following link.  http://http://www.dewalt.com//ProductImages/PC_Graphics/PHOTOS/DEWALT/TOOLS/LARGE/3/DW304PK_1.jpg

I could not view your link Jeff but I think I understand ;) !!

Dell does have a firmware update for this drive, it states fixes an issue with Vista but Members have used it with XP.
Whether it will help, I honestly cannot say.

Jeff,
I talked with Dell they were nice, but the parts warrenty expired at 1 year.
They also suggested rerunning the test with a program CD in the drive (instead of a homemade picture CD).  Then I got a 650F:2874 spindle failure.
Sounds like a dead drive.

Thanks again
Jeff

Yes Jeff, Spindle Test failure is the biggie, time to replace her.
New Egg has some nice drives for under $40.00.

Good luck and have a Happy Thanksgiving !!

I am having the same problem with is DVD(8801). No matter insert what CD/DVD, it doesn't read, just displays blank in Window Explorer. I tried latest driver (AD21.zip) too. My PC is DEL E310 (XP), purchased last Aug. Now warranty expired!

I searched Internet, and found so many complaints about this DVD with DELL. I assume this is a Driver problem with DELL. Can you test and fix this problem?

Thanks.
