hello there.. It's 2011 now :) That makes this post about 3 years old. Your support link doesn't work anymore :(
I wanted to restore my Dell XPS 420 also. I can see the recovery drive D:, but I'm not sure if an actual image exists. The windows folder is 1.01 GB, and the rest of the directories combined are only about 10 MB
----------
D:\>dir
Volume in drive D is RECOVERY
Volume Serial Number is 9864-51FB
Directory of D:\

When I hit F8 and select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, I go through the prompts and login, then it says it can't find the image.
Any ideas? Did or do I need to do something to create an image? My only options are to choose a network location or add a driver.
What is it looking for? Was I supposed to make this 'image' file myself? What would I have used in order to make it?
Thanks for any help or thoughts.

That folder doesn't sound large enough to contain the Image Restore factory image in it. So it sounds like the image may not have been put on the drive.
If you must reinstall Vista, you'll probably need to do it manually.
And since it is 2011, why did you post your question in a 3-year old thread, instead of starting a new one?? Duh!
