I have a Dell Dimemsions 5150 with Windows XP Media Center Edition. It has two dirves, DVD/CD-RW (E drive) and
DVD-RW (D drive). When I try to burn a disc they are not recognizied and I get a box reading "insert disc". This has been an issue in the recent past but if I would try to insert again and again it would work. Now I get nothing but frustration....
Please work through
these standard troubleshooting steps, including running the Dell diagnostics, which will tell us if there is a hardware problem with your drive. You'll need to insert a data CD-ROM disc, not a CD-R, in the drive to run the test.
First I'd like to thank you for your time and assistance. The link you suggested will take more time than I have at the moment. Just a note, the drives BOTH WORK with CD/DVD rom's, it's the blank ones that aren't recognized when I want to burn. I don't know if that matters?
Hello..hope this is correct group. forgive my typing. my dvd +/- burner won't recognize a blank disk, asks "insert disk" when i try to activate roxio mydvd le program to burn a copy of a short video clip. the dvdrom and dvd+/- drive will both play a store bought movie and a cd-r file. dvd rom will play a dvd+r video clip, dvd +/- will not. have used tdk and maxell dvd+r blank disks. appreciate your advice. 8mile.. dell E521 one year old,amd athlon 64x2 dual core 3800, xp. i would like to ask for this groups advice. my burner is a tsst tsh653a. thanks 8mile
mtntude..im having same problem with a tsst burner.. i posted above in wrong group, sorry. 8mile
Yes, I understand. If you run through the troubleshooting steps, it will refresh the drivers and rule out a few obvious problems, then we'll go from there. Let me know how you get on with each step.
I did ALL the tasks on the uninstallments and all appears OK. A few times the E: drive did not recognize but then it did??.... I was able to burn a DVD in the D: and now I wonder, are my drives different in the way of burning. I thought that both were CD and DVD burners. I'll play with it some more to verify.
Though now my speakers make a static noise when the PC is doing functions, it seems that as the hardrive is working the static is too. any suggestions?

I can't help you much with static from your speakers. Perhaps the desktop audio forum can help.
Take care,
