Graphics card replacement

Your system can take the 8800 GT card with the current power supply if interested.

Step # 1

Download the most current driver for the video card, and have it placed on the desktop for later install. Try not to use the video card driver from the CD that comes with the card, since they are somewhat out of date. You still may if you wish to.

If it’s an nVidia card, go to www.nvidia.com



1. Turn off the system, unplug the power cord, and push in on the systems power button for about 5 seconds to discharge the system further.

2. Remove the old card, and install the new card, firmly.

3. Now if required attach, any power cable to the card and the other end to a power input, to get the video card to work. Your systems power supply may have this extra power 4 pin or 6 pin connector, depending on the card installed.

Some retail video card manufactures include the molex Y power cable and some do not. If not, they do not cost more than a couple of bucks.


4. Now disable your Anti Virus software, and disconnect the modem at this time.


5. Install the newer video card driver from where you downloaded it, than if necessary, go into the Display Properties to reset the monitor resolution after it reboots. You are almost done. Now restart the Anti Virus program, and connect the modem.

I printed out what you gave me and thank you.  I have checked on my Direct X and I have 9.0c and I see in Nvidia that the 8800 GT need 10 or is that what is with the card?  They have a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT series 8, 512 mb, 128 bit.  Mine right now is 32 bit and I gather that is the color.  I can see how it would be difficult for people to understand what is in their computer but what you have to do I guess is read a lot and enjoy doing it.

I also have a Vista laptop HP and I do enjoy that.  But I don't have Untimate.

First dd43, you do not have a core 2 duo cpu and that will be your bottleneck.  Not much to worry about until later when better games come out for it, so do not consern yourself too much. 

The 8800 GT or other directx 10 video cards can be played very well on a directx 9 system, just a slight performance hit, not much to notice with such a nice card such as the 8800 GT or GTX.  Many getting the GT version since it cheaper and performs very close to the GTX. 

Correct about the 32 bit being the color.
