Philips DVD-ROM DROM 6316 DVD Player

Question

Help!   I have a Dimension E521 (OS Windows XP SP 2) which has both a DVD player and CD RW.  The Dell support centre software advised me I needed to install a Firmware update for the DVD player which I have done.  Since then the DVD Player (Philips DVD-ROM DROM 6316) does not work.  Each time I start my PC Windows recognises the DVD device but then says it cannot load the driver and it will not work.  I have checked the device manager and the DVD player is listed.  No error codes are reported and a list of drivers appears in the driver window.  If I run update hardware from here I get the following message 'There was a problem installing this hardware.  An error occurred during the installation of this device.  The data is invalid.'   Can anyone help?!
