Kapot,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You should look to see if there is a firmware update available on our Downloads site.

Yes,

I did update the firmware, and it was successfull update.

The symptom always like this (I watched through the TASK MANAGER -> Performance) :

- The first few seconds, CPU utilization was about 20 - 30%. This was fine, because at that time the CD operation was fast.

- And then next, CPU utilization was drop, 1% ... 0% ... 1% ... sometimes 5% (spike) ... this came the CD operation was very-very SLOW.

Always like this, I just confused what should I investigate more. Because I dont know is it hardware or windows XP pro problem :(

Is there any other thing I can do ? to trace / debug this problem :(

The machine is really great, except this CD operation :(

Thanks for any info / help.

Sounds like I've got the same problem, the drive works for a bit when the computer is cool (off for a very long time).  Then it stops being able to read, and the disk comes out scorching hot.  I'm hoping the program I8kfanGUI will help bring down the temp inside the case and hence bring the drive to a cooler temp that it will be able to function.  Otherwise, I'm NOT impressed, everybody's got issues with these drives it seems!
