There is no limit with the 530s, you can install any of the currently available SATA hard drives.

That sounds promising :)

Its just that...

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

It says on the tech specs on that page:

"The Inspiron 530s supports up to two hard drives, each with up to 500GB space. With the large range of choices and Dell DataSafeTM  you can configure your storage to meet your needs, whether it's for storing large quantities of files, backing up system information and files, or improving performance with data striping.
  • Multiple Serial ATA Hard Drives with both hard drives utilised.
  • Up to 500GB with Dell DataSafe Local, exclusively offered by Dell - a safe and simple way to help protect your memories from damage due to accidents, system crashes and other disasters.
  • Up to 500GB Single Serial ATA Hard Drive
  • 640GB [2x320GB 7200rpm] Serial ATA drives (Non-RAID)
  • The max capacity is 640Gb HDD."

It seems to suggest that it won't handle a single hard drive thats 1tb... Is this perhaps outdated information?

The hard drive I'm looking to buy is exactly the same type as the one I have now but 1tb instead of 320gig...

I just wanted to check I can run a 1tb hard drive, because those tech specs seem to suggest i can't :(

Sorry to say, the Dell information in your post is incorrect.

"The max capacity is 640Gb HDD.", yet if you check the website, you will find Dell is selling the Inspiron 530s with a factory installed 750gb SATA hard drive.

See here.
