what does it mean when i get a message on screen smartcom has detected a problem with a hard disq drive back up data immediately contact dell support anyone one know what this means does it need repairing or what i have the dell lapitude d600

Back up IMMEDIATELY and replace the drive, which is failing.   You need:  120G or smaller, 2.5'/9.5 mm EIDE (parallel ATA) drive.
