Dell inspiron 9400 will not boot or post for that matter.

when you hit the power button the power light stays on for a few seconds and then goes off. The screen never flickers, no sound, nothing.

I have tried takeng the battery out and unpluging it from the charger, then putting the battery back in. still the same, then I pluged the charger back in, still no luck. Any clues?

Still no luck. Thanks, I had no idea that the laptop would work with no battery.

Leave the battery out and use the just the adapter (it's not just a charger) plugged into a working socket. See if it works then. You might need a new battery. If there are no lights on the adapter, you need a new one.

Try reseating the memory. If that does nothing, is the LED on the AC adapter, ON before you plug in the notebook end? If it is not, replace the adapter.

If still nothing, the mainboard is faulty.

The adapter has a green light. I will try reseating the memory, but I think the board is gone.
