Dell 1521 Inspiron CD DVD Drive

Question

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 and have been having problems with the CD/DVd driver. I have gone through these threads and tried all suggestions but to no avail. This morning when I rebooted it said driver installed successfully. So I played a dvd and cd which was fine (In the past even the driver icon had disappeared). Now I have tried again and windows media player won't recognize the discs. I have tried the regedit option and am now at a loss. I tried going through dell where it asked me to go to start-all programs-set program access...but there is no all program access icon to click on...any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do only 2 things....try to boot the computer from windows cd and if that does not work it meaas drive needs to be replaced***or try to play in the safe mode and chk...and tell me both the cds and dvds not eorking or just the dvds..if that is the case you may need to install the decoder for the dvds...pls explain me what exactly the issue is///

After trying all kinds of things, I installed and ran Spybot. It found soem registry problems that were not being noticed. As of now the drive seems to be working fine. Thanks for your suggestions Onkee!
