Inspirion 1521 Black Screen when running on AC

My laptop screen goes black after a 5 to 10 minutes running on AC - have checked the power options they are all set to never turn off - clicking mouse or keyboard will not bring it back

Sleep and hibernate disabled

Doesn't go black when running on battery on and

external monitor doesn't black out though the laptop screen will still go black if on AC or AC with battery. Removing the battery didn't resolve problem

Have downloaded newest ATI radeon drivers, all newest VIsta patches, all the latest drivers off the dell site for all devices on the laptop

Note if the laptop screen is black on the ac and you plug in an external monitor the laptop screen will light up again for 5 to 10 minutes

Any ideas

Same - can toggle the screen back to life with the fn crt/lcd screen but the screen will black out again in 5 to 10 minutes

Once the battery is charged at 100% you should remove it. Sometimes while on line the computer will black out not really

dark for pop ups this happens too. But if the switch burned out a Dell technician must repair it I dont think that is what

it is reminding of a cellular phone they have a switch that you can turn off and on for a backlight.

Mine is doing this too. The manual says it is the LCD light switch. This is found in some dell models in the monitor a technician has

to take the thing apart in some models and replace the bulb or the switch for the back light I have an older model of Dell.

I have seen this on several models 1500, 1520 ,1525 all seemed to have a fault in the sensor circuit for detecting when the lid is closed, you can test this by using a magnet and running it across the the section under the touchpad buttons, you can use the back of your mobile phone, if it has a loud speaker, screen should light up if it is this prob, if you get any answers from dell, pass on comment to me please

I've been having the same problem on a Vostro 1500.  Is there a definite explanation and repair for this?  If it is not fixed, will it eventually have the same problem while on battery power as opposed to just on ac?

I speak to Dell tech most weeks, and you never get to speak to a real engineer, if the laptop under warranty then board change, if not then still board change but mega costs, when i find out the cause and a fix, i will post, I wonder if this site is Ever looked at by Dell tech staff?

My warranty expired some time ago.  I have been unable to find a fix for this problem.  I have noticed that I can use the laptop with the power cord plugged in as long as the screen brightness is turned down.  It also has trouble on battery power when the brightness is turned all the way up.

This is not a Windows problem, i have left the vestry on the bios setup screen, and the back-light still dies, but comes back on if the lid is closed and opened, i have a gut feeling it is a firmware problem, i fixed one that had a faulty inverter, but it not the same fault, also i getting a lot of dell and other makes, turning on but no display at all, i have had much success repairing these, but cant lick the vostro back-light prob, Hello Mr. dell engineer give us a clue, or a circuit diagram please, beg grovel crawl
