926 Printer - error 2200

I have a Dell 926 printer bought in July 2007.  It has worked fine until now.  I am now getting an error 2200 message which won't go away even after unplugging the printer for an hour, pushing the tick mark when asked to etc etc.  Are there any other suggestions to getting this printer working?  Do I need to take it apart to solve this scan carrier problem?

All I was doing was switching the printer on!

Thanks,

Mark

The dell technical site page (link below) says to open the lid and reset the scanner via a green switch to the left of the kickstand - but there is no such switch on the 926 printer.  I can see the scanner lighting up and trying to move, but it just judders in place.  Is there some other physical way to lock and unlock the scanner carrier?

Same error message and juddering sound from the scanner.  I've removed the power cord, removed the transformer brick, removed the paper etc.  Still same cyclical error 2200.

Let's start with something easy.

Unplug the printer from the wall.

Remove the power brick from the printer for 60 seconds.

Plug everything back in.

What happens?

I get the error message from the printer as soon as I switch it on.  I'm not printing or scanning at all - just turning the printer on.

See if this fixes it. If not, then I can do some research but it may be Monday when I get the solution or someone that might know the answer.

Unplug the printer from the wall. Remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds.

Insert the power cord back into the printer. You will hear some clicks and motors moving. Pull out the cord again when this happens.

Open the cartridge bay by pulling the face forward and lifting the bay door up. The cartridge carousel most likely will not come to the center.

trying physically pulling the carousel to the middle. (NOT BY THE RIBBON CABLE) If you can not pull it to the middle push it far right as possible. Listen for a click.

After pushing to the right and hearing a click you should then be able to pull the carousel towards the middle easily. Remove the ink cartridges and power up the printer again.

You will receive an error along the lines of black cartridge missing. Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay.

Do you get the error message when you copy something or only when you're printing from a computer? If so, then try re-installing the drivers this way.

Disconnect your printer. Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer.

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Thanks - just tried that, no audible click when pushing the cartridges to the right.  Still the same response - error 2200.  Didn't even recognise that there were no ink cartridges in the printer.  The printer carrier travels along the printer OK - it appears to be the scanner carrier that might be stuck in some way.  I can see the white cable to the scanner carrier vibrating and that appears to be where the juddering sound is coming from.

I have logged an error using the service tag.

Still same error message - support can't help me.  Last Dell printer I buy - thing is unusable despite light use over just 14 months.  I'll buy an HP printer in future and recommend everyone does the same.  Even the Dell laser printers in the office are unreliable.  I'm very disappointed.

I found this on another website.

I called Dell and they told me to turn off the printer first. I then removed the power supply and pressed the power button for 15 seconds (they told me it cleared info out of the printer???). I then plugged the power back in and pressed the power button. It now works fine. No more error 2200.

I agree. I've been a Dell customer for a long time and I too am getting this message and Dell can't help. I'm on my way to Costco to get an HP all in one. Had this 962 for 4 years. Previous Dell printer/fax suddenly started grabbing more than one sheet at a time to fax/copy and I had to get a new one then too becuase they couldn't help. Love the computers, hate the printers/faxes/scanners.

mine is doing the exact same thing...I have to pull the ink cartridges to the right when i turn it on and hear the constant clicking..then hold the power button to make it turn off, then restart it again after the 2200 error message comes up. It does work then, but the exclamation point red warning constantly blinks on the top of it regardless. :/
