Since speaking with dell tech support multiple times they have sent me all their available software. Of wich the cyberling power DVD 8 BD was included. I installed this software and it fixed my problems. Then about a week ago Cyberlink contacted me saying that they authorized a patch for dell media direct and gave me a link to dell update 4.7

Media Direct 4.7

Now I have to BD softwares from cyberlink that work flawlessly. I took almost 2 months for a fix but persistance paid off.

Thanks to everyone who gave input in this matter and I hope all of yalls BD problems resolve soon.

Thanks for the tip I did need an update of the video driver but it still didn't fix the problem. Media Direct I think is the culprit. Cyberlink has put out major patches for it's Power DVD programs to fix some BD-J issue with newer titles. I have sent them a tech report requesting an in house solution to this problem. My BD library is at about 20 titles and all but the last two i purchaced have worked fine.

Hi Lotus182. :emotion-1: It may be neither of those things (Cyberlink or hardware) but may be instead a need for an updated video driver. I didn't see one listed in the Dell Drivers and Downloads for that specific model but you may want to take a look yourself just in case I missed it. Of course the other place to get an updated driver would be from the Nvidia site (Download section). Either way before you update the driver be sure to create a manual restore point just in case something goes wrong. Any questions, let me know.

Hi! im also having the same problem, trying to play Tropic Thunder through the MediaDirect. I've also loaded the most current NVIDIA, but still its not playing. Do you have to go out and buy the Power DVD program? and also i'm not able to play the DVD's under the Microsoft Media Center. My problem is that it tells me that, cannot Play Disc, No program is installed to play Blu-ray disc in Windows Media Center.

Hi csc08, you need a third party software to view Blu-ray. I use Coral Win DVD 9 Plus HD to view my Blu-ray.

I'm currently in a discussion with cyberlink trying to see if it is a fixable software issue. I uploaded a lot of information to their FTP and now i'm waiting for the response. hopefully they will create a patch. I'm 95% sure the reason newer movies won't play is because our current build of media direct can't process the newer BD-J encryptions on the movies, As for Windows media center currently Microsoft does not suupport blu-ray playback through Media Center.

Anyone figure out why the blu-ray's won't play?  I have a xps 1730 and my matshita blu-ray won't play wall-e or tropical thunder.  Could use some help if anyone's figured out the problem.

thanks

Pretty sure the problem is the software waiting on a reply from cyberlink. Dell support is a giant joke noone seems to know what the *** is going on. If cyberlink issues an updaye for our software i will be sure to post an update

So, I guess nothing so far from Cyberlink?

Is it worth it purchasing a different Blue Ray player such as WinDVD 9 plus Blue Ray?

I can't play The Incredible Hulk on Windows Media Direct.  I've been able to play the Cars and Semi-Pro Blue-Ray discs; but, not The Incredible Hulk.

I don't see what the point is of Dell Media Direct if we can't get timely updates to play new Blue-Ray discs.

I would'nt buy anything, I called dell and they sent me a new program for blu-ray.  It's power dvd 8.1, which was suppose to come with my xps laptop but did'nt, so they sent it to me for free.  I hav'nt had a chance to see if the movies I had problems with worked or not though.

Cec08, I just got off the phone with Dell Technical support and this was my basic argument.

Tech tried to tell me that it's just the nature of Blue-Ray that some discs play and some don't.  I argued that there was no point in me buying the blue ray player if it's all a matter of luck whether the drive and/or accompanying software will actually work or not.

Anyways, I was able to talk them into sending me a Roxio blue ray player.  They wouldn't give me Power DVD for some reason, so we'll see if Roxio works or not.  I actually am not convinced that Roxio even makes a blue ray player.

Well, anyways I also will post a reply if the new software works for the disk I'm having trouble with (Incredible Hulk).

Oh, and thanks to Jeff21 for the helpful information. :)

Lawgirl7.... wow i'm really sad to hear that.... for me it was pretty much no questions asked. Just told him what was we have been going through with the new blu rays, and he said ok.  Yea, and thats pretty silly what he told you, because your not going to know if its gonna play until u try to play the new dvd, and if it doenst....your out of luck? Cause obviously we cant return these dvds after weve opened them, and blu ray movies are not cheap! Well hopefully what he sends you works... i'll post an update to see if what they sends me works as well...
