The latest Cyberlink PowerDVD and Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre can playback BluRay movies using the BluRay drive that came with my Dell. Finally after nearly two years since I originally bought the Dell have I been able to play BluRay movies on it.

To make sure nothing stuffs up, don't download any BD Live data. I always select "No" when prompted at the start.

Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre is great to use when you have a remote control as it understands all commands when it launches from Vista Media Center.

I downloaded the trial version of powerdvd 10 from cyberlink, and what do you know, the movie played.  So OBVIOUSLY the new DRM software on newer blu-rays is incompatible with mediadirect...something Dell HAS to realize because this is EXACTLY what cyberlink says on its site...and the MADE mediadirect for Dell!!!!  but isDell  too incompentent to tell its tech team or for some reason reluctant to share because they have not fixed it yet.

Yes, installing the trial version of powerdvd I was playing blu rays no problem.

the trial expired, I finally got my install cds in the mail from dell, I uninstalled the trial, and my old powerdvd, re-installed powerdvd dx ran the upgrade and I am still not able to play blu rays AGAIN..

Dell has really dropped the ball on this one. interesting that I was able to play blu rays when I first got my computer, Last month. My xps 9000 and now I cant play blu rays at all. Unless I purchase powerdvd from cyberlink. I know that works, the trial did wonderful. Whats WRONG WITH DELL? PowerDVD DX.

is there a link to cyberlinks website which talks about this issue jason?

I have a Dell Studio XPS 8100, I have no Blu-ray drive as one wasn't offered. However If I goto 'my computer' I can see a 'Ghost' Blu-ray drive next to by cd-drive which is kind of annoying.

The thing that really annoys me though is that the machine can't play ANY Warner Brother music CD's or even rip them. As I bought this machine for a music studio this is a shocking deal breaker for me. Except Dell are such a hassle to deal with. I have 20 computers to set up for work over the next 3 months and I was going to order all Dell's. Never again!

There is countless threads on this issue (which seems to be hardware related TS-H653G) Dell however refuse to acknowlege the problem or replace the drive, and can be quite rude on the phone. It's scandelous. I now warn clients/friends and family against all Dell products. If they had been polite or even just fixed the issue with no hassle this would not have happened. I understand that occasionally manufacturing problems can occur, But to deny that they exist when countless customers are complaining is just plain wrong.

Why is it Dell seem to have such problems building a machine with a fully functional optical drive!!!? It's not a good look and I won't be returning to Dell for future purchases. If you reading this thread and haven't baought a Dell machine yet..... buy something else.
