Hello,

A few things could be going on here.

A faulty drive is the most likely. Someone or yourself installed one of those joke programs with or without knowing. Something in the startup file is doing it. If you have access to another drive, give it a try. Run an online virus scan like the one at kaspersky.com. Or, go to 'start', 'run' and type in msconfig and click on 'OK'. Check the 'startup' tab to see if some unknown process is lurking there.

I checked startup on MSCONFIG and nothing unusual.  I keep a close eye on this anyway.  I ran a full scan with Spyware Doctor and no viruses or spyware were found.  Any other thoughts?  I am wondering if it could be a fixable hardware problem like something loose inside the box.  Can you think of any hardware fixes I might do?

Hello again,

I don't think so.

I think that if you have a loose connection, the problem would not just be at startup. You can open the system and recheck the cables if you want. If you have another CD or DVD you can try, that can rule out a software issue.
