Hi, Cubsfan:

Let's start with the media you're using and the application you're using to burn DL discs.

If you are not sure who made these discs, grab DVD Identifier (link below) to be sure.

1. Addtional information required. Let me know the CD burning software used and its version.

2. Do you have sufficient permission to perform CD burning related tasks on this "Dell Inspiron E1505 ?

                                                               Hints

1 . It will not be a good idea to burn  blank CD/DVD to its maximum capacity. You cannot copy a 650-MB file to a blank 650-MB CD because the drive needs 1-2MB of blank space to finalize the recording as required.

2 . Just to remind ! Most DVD-writable drives installed in Dell computers can peacefully write to and read DVD+/-R,DVD+/-RW and DVD+R DL (dual layer) media, but cannot write to and may not read DVD-RAM or DVD-R DL, media.

You might need to check for available patches on the sonic support website if you continue to experience CD/DVD burning problems........ Sonic website link:

http//www.sonic.com

Remember required additional information.

Here is a list of brands under which that media code is sold. Most definitely a mixed success rate at best. Verbatim (media code MKM) are well regarded. I'd try them.
