Hi, Silvertip:
I'm afraid it's time for a new drive. If you're still under warranty, get in touch with Dell about a replacement drive. Otherwise, if you post the model of your Dell, I can make a recommendation.

thanks for the reply..it is a Vostro 200

I looked up the replacement instructions, which can be found here.
Your Vostro takes SATA drives (not slim). Here are 40 drives available from Newegg, a good online vendor.
