reinstalling XP
I am about to format my harddrive but i have no recovery disk to reinstall xp. i checked the box my laptop came in but theres no disk in it. is there anywhere i can get one? or a softcopy i can download? i have checked my laptop and found that it still has its DSR partition, which, from the dell web site says it is an "exact copy of your computer's original factory software". if i use this pc restore, will that clear the XP operating system?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
You can use the Recovery Partition. This will put the system like when it was first delivered. If you dont have a disk then do not format. You can also click the link below to request backup disc.

Using the DSR utility (if working) will indeed restore your computer system to “out-of-box” condition
Not sure if you already know, but be aware:
That means, ALL programs, updates & personal data added since “out-of-box” date – will be wiped/removed
Carefully read the Dell PC Restore procedure here (select the Windows XP option)

Dear DELL-Jesse L,
I have similar trouble, i.e. I just cannot find my CDs/DVDs with drivers and WinXP system because I have moved three times since I bought my Dell laptop and the discs and some documents may have been lost.
However, when I reinstalled the system about a year ago, I made a system recovery backup (system image) using Acronis True Image Home 11 program.
Do I still need a CD/DVD to restore my system as I remember that at the pervious restore I had to use some utility from the accompanying disc to create partition for Media Direct?
Or, can I create Media Direct partition using third-party utilities?
