XPS 630i Q9300 2.5GHz only running at 2.33GHz

I just found something interesting, my Q9300 in XPS 630i only runs at 2.33GHz (333x7) instead of factory 2.5GHz (333x7.5)

any ideas???

vvspy,

I am running the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 so my 1.0.12 Bios System Setup settings will differ from yours. Compare mine to yours. Here they are -

Advanced- CPU Feature
CPU Clock Ratio Unlock = Enabled
CPU Clock Ratio = 10x
C1E Function = Disabled
Executive Disable Bit = Enabled
Virtualization = Enabled
Speedstep = Enabled
Frequency Unlimit = Enabled

Advanced- Overclock Configuration
HT Speed = 5x
FSB Memory Clock Mode = Auto

 Advanced- Overvoltage Configuration
All Auto

i check with bios, everything is set in auto

Advanced- CPU Feature
CPU Clock Ratio Unlock = Enabled
CPU Clock Ratio = 7x
C1E Function = Enabled
Executive Disable Bit = Enabled
Virtualization = Enabled
Speedstep = Enabled
Frequency Unlimit = Enabled

CPU N/2 Ratio = Enabled

Advanced- Overclock Configuration
HT Speed = 5x
FSB Memory Clock Mode = Auto

 Advanced- Overvoltage Configuration
All Auto

the intel processor utility still reports 2.33GHz and 1243MHz FSB in all four cores.

1243MHz is strange, but CPU-z v1.47 shows rated FSB 1333MHz... ps, everything are untouched, only i replace 4x1G DELL ram with Corsair DHX C5 4GB 2X2GB kit.

Hey vvspy,

Your OP stated: "I just found something interesting, my Q9300 in XPS 630i only runs at 2.33GHz (333x7) instead of factory 2.5GHz (333x7.5)

And I noticed in your BIOS post above that you have a CPU Clock Ratio = 7x and a CPU N/2 = Enabled,

Chris M may be able to shed some light on this, but I thought that when the CPU N/2 was enabled it uped the Clock Ratio by the 0.5 which should mean that your unit should be 333X7.5.    Ayt least that is the way it has worked on my 630i and my 730 H2C.

Hi, Darrell

i agreed with u. i didn't know why the N/2 enable didn't work. However, in overclock config, the mobo detected CPU multiplier at 7.5X.

even flashed the latest A12 bios, nothing changed. faulty mobo???
