Hi, I got the same model. My DVD also does not seem to function proplerly anymore. Any CD/DVD I put, it make this noises then eject the cd. This happens also without any OS loaded (in bios). I did a firmware update (detected the DVD just fine) which I got from the Download site. Now this model does not even apear anywhere.
hi same problem here, I've inserted a dvd, the drive makes a noise like it's gonna explode, then ejects the disc. i've updated the firmware and still the same. any fix yet??

It's a Philips-Liteon drive. Here's the retail version:

If it's not reading discs, call Dell for a warranty replacement.

Hi, all
You may want to try the below link:
PLDS DL-8ATS DVDRW Firmware
On the other hand, you may want to replace the Windows storage driver with Intel storage driver too.

For better compatiblity with media key:
Windows VIsta 32-bit:

Windows VIsta 64-bit:

Thank you. However, none of these steps helped :emotion-6:

Call and have the drive replaced under warranty.
