Simplest method of managing a Dell server
Hello,
We are a small business (~15 employees) running a new Poweredge R710. The server runs ESXi 4.0 and has 2 VMs installed.
This is the only server in our organization, all other machines are workstations running Windows XP. I'm looking for a simple (and preferably free - we're on budget) method of monitoring this server. I just need to get basic alerts on the server's health and most importantly e-mail notifications on malfunctioned disks so I can call in the service to replace them. One more worth mentioning (that might be relevant) is that we have the Express version of iDRAC.
I was looking into Dell Managment Console (DMC) but it seems like it needs to be installed on a server OS and I was just wondering if it makes sense to install the software on the R710 itself (or on one of the VMs to be more precise) and hence monitor itself. If there are other options please advise...
Thanks in advance,
Danny

Server Administrator and IT Assistant should work and they are free. You can watch videos on how to config here:

Hmm, the "unsupported" command kinda scares me.
Are there any "officially" supported solutions?
