problem with 9200 Inspiron screen

I started to have several vertical lines.  The I got one and two inch lines flickering. Now I have on the right side of my screen a 2 inch white vertical band, 2 inch black vertical band, 1 inch aqua vertical band and another 1 inch white vertical band.  Ran through the tests that were recommended but kept getting a failed test for video graphic.  Does anyone know if my screen is shot...it is 4 years old?  I have hooked my laptop to external monitor and picture is fine on the external monitor. Thanks for any info.

Since an external monitor works on your system, it is easy to say that it is not the video card that is bad.

My guess would be either the video inverter or the backlight.

Sounds more like a panel failure - a bad backlight or inverter would cause a dim or black screen, not the video faults being seen.

What is a panel failure? Can I repair or replace it?

Most likely the contacts on the panel itself have broken loose - it happens to older systems like this one.   You can replace the panel - though a new one won't be inexpensive (and a used one can be a risky purchase, since you don't know its history).

The cost for a new panel will run $400-600 depending on the resolution of the display.  A used one should be no more than $200.

Hello,

Curious if you have already resolved, if not, I recently had my LCD replaced and can refer you to a reputable repair shop..

Let me know if I can help.

Thank you!
