Having not purchased any hard drives from Dell since 2001, I really don't know, but I would assume the lenght of warranty would be listed when you purchase the hard drive.
Personally, I buy hard drives and most most of my parts from Newegg, because if there is a problem, their Customer Service is excellent.
Do yourself a favor buy it from someone else, because Dell will give you a limited warranty and their customer service is bad to put it politely. I do not recommend Dell products to anyone anymore. Read the complaints section.
If Dell replaces your drive in all likely hood it is with a refurb product which carries a limited time warranty. If your warranty has run out or you have the funds and the knowledge to replace the drive yourself you are much better off purchasing from a vendor and getting the 3 year warranty. Just make sure before you buy that the drive does carry that warranty.
If an additional HDD is purchased from DELL, is it also limited in warranty? Or will it carry the three year warranty available if purchased elsewhere?

No, if the computer has a one year warranty, then the hard drive has the same one year warranty, as does all the other components.
When the computer has a three year warranty, then the hard drive has the same three years.
