It ends with a user removing the burning software, then removing the Upper and Lowerfilters per the Microsoft articles. Upon reboot the drive was back, then the burning software was reinstalled and they were back running.
Yes, that solved it. I wasn't able to remove the lower filters as they weren't present, but it doesn't matter because my disk drive is working once again. Thank you very much, I thought I was going to have to buy a new drive.
