Downgrade from Windows 7 64 bit to 32 bit?
Just received Studio 540. Love the machine, but the primary program I use to interface with our Unix Server is not compatible with 64 bit Win7 (Home Premium).
(ICE.TCP DejawinT terminal emulation software). The program worked fine with the Win7 32-bit Beta.
Used the 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' option, no success.
Do I have to downgrade to 32 bit (I have 8GB RAM installed in machine), or is there a work around.

Thank you for contacting the Dell Community Forums. It appears that ICE.TCP is designed to run in 32-bit environments (see their website for an example). It may be possible to get it to run in a 64-bit environment, but I am not sure whether that will work. You may want to visit the ICE-TCP forums and see if they have any recommendations for getting the software to work in your OS.

I just checked, and it appears that Dell doesn't offer 32-bit Windows 7 with the Studio 540. With Windows Vista, Dell gave customers the option of swapping versions of the same OS at no charge (say, Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit), but since the 32-bit version isn't offered for your system, that option is unavailable. In this case, I would suggest purchasing a similar version of Windows 7 (Home Premium 32-bit for instance). You may also be able to purchase a Microsoft upgrade kit which, I believe, contains 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.

The software is fairly antiquated - there is no movement to upgrade the software. The response from the forum is "You can't do that".
What is the best and cheapest method to downgrading to 32-bit Win7? Do I re-format the C drive and then install?
What version of Win7 do I need. Can I purchase an upgrade version? I notice that many of the upgrade versions do not specify whether they are 32 or 64 bit versions. Do you get the choice when you install windows?
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
